The Minister for Justice has asked the Garda for a report on Sinn Fein claims that its members in north Kerry were investigating burglaries and returning stolen goods to their owners.
Sinn Fein was criticised by the Minister and Fine Gael yesterday after Mr Martin Ferris, confirmed that Sinn Fein members have visited homes and picketed one house to retrieve stolen property. He said what they were doing was peaceful and lawful. Sinn Fein was able to go in and talk and get the property back. Part of the operation was "not to betray the source" of the information. He denied vigilantism, intimidation or bullying.
Mr O'Donoghue said: "Attempts by Sinn Fein to subvert the law and order system or undermine the work of the Garda Siochana will not be tolerated."
