The kitchen and restaurant at a Co Clare hotel has been ordered to close over food safety violations, it emerged today.
The Claremont Hotel in Lahinch was one of two businesses served with a closure order by the Food Safety Authority of Ireland (FSAI) last month.
The other premises was a grocers called the Daya Shop in Killarney Street, Dublin 1, which has since re-opened after the order was lifted.
Closure Orders are served where an inspector believes there is "likely to be a grave and immediate danger to public health. They can lead to the part or total closure of a business.
"For the few that continue to breach food safety laws, I sincerely hope that the threat of being closed and publication on the FSAI website will be an incentive to maintain proper standards," FSAI chief executive Dr John O'Brien said.
An order prohibiting Joe Hayes butcher in Ballinasloe Co Galway from selling a range of meat products was also served in June.
