A retired bank manager and "pillar of society" has been jailed for eight years by Mr Justice Paul Carney at the Central Criminal Court for sexually assaulting five young girls.
The 66-year-old man pleaded guilty to 64 sample charges of indecent and sexual assault relating to the five victims.
The balance of the 100 charges on the indictment were taken into consideration.
A total of 51 of the charges involved indecent assault of one of the victims on various dates in the years from 1971 to 1983 at specified places in Ireland.
He admitted 11 further sample counts of indecent and sexual assault on four other young girls on dates in the years from 1976 to 1993 in various locations in Ireland.
Mr Justice Carney imposed three consecutive two-year prison terms and two consecutive one-year terms, in relation to each of the victims, making a total of eight years. He took into consideration his early guilty plea.
He said the sentences apply variously to all the charges to which the defendant pleaded guilty but are concurrent in relation to the multiplicity of the crimes.
Mr Justice Carney refused an application by defence counsel Mr Michael Counihan SC for a certificate for leave to appeal severity of sentence.
He imposed two year sentences on the charges which carried a five year maximum sentence and one year terms where two years was the maximum sentence for indecent assault.
Mr Counihan told the court his client's marriage had ended. His assets had also been frozen as a result of uncontested civil proceedings by the victims.
