THE current focus on overseas accounts - in the Cayman Islands and elsewhere - and the Revenue Commissioners' vigorous investigation into discrepancies between lifestyle and income, a la CJH and others, is one of the reasons Trevor Danker cites for the recent reticence of Irish socialites to have their activities reported in the gossip columns.
Trevor - who has opened a PR agency with his daughter Orla and was a society columnist with the Sunday Independent for 20 years - says times have changed of late. Socialites once so keen to have their parties and holidays reported are now afraid of two things - the tax man and the burglar or criminal.
He left the gossip business for other reasons though - the mortgage is paid, the kids are educated, he did a deal with the Indo and he has the contacts. As well as general and business PR, he will now supply material to British and US newspaper diaries.
