SIPTU workers at four meat plants owned by Anglo-Irish Beef Processors (AIBP) are to return to work tomorrow after agreeing to suspend pickets and enter talks at the Labour Court.
The pickets on plants in Rathkeale, Co Limerick, Cahir and Nenagh in Co Tipperary, and Clones, Co Monaghan, have been in place for over two months. They were placed by SIPTU in pursuit of a severance package for staff laid off or put on short-term working.
SIPTU and AIBP management will begin talks in the Labour Court on Friday on the issue of severance payments. The issue of workers put on short time will be dealt with under the company's disputes procedures policy.
A statement from the company said it had agreed to implement the remaining phase of the PPF in each plant.
