Equipment for removing the dye from red diesel sold in Northern Ireland for agricultural use has been seized by Revenue officials at Rassan, Co Louth.
The Revenue Enforcement Division has been investigating a racket in which the dye is removed from agricultural diesel and the fuel is then sold as auto diesel.
The equipment seized reportedly had the capacity to produce up to 250,000 litres of "laundered" oil each week. More than 50,000 litres of oil were seized in the raid, along with five oil tankers and a range of equipment.
In follow-up operations in the Louth-/Monaghan area seven more premises were visited and samples of oil were taken away for examination. A further oil tanker was seized at one of these premises.
