The Buckley review group on public sector pay will today hear a claim from TDs for a wage increase of up to 30 per cent, writes Miriam Donohue.
The chairman of the Oireachtas Members' Services Sub-committee, Mr Tony Killeen, will make a presentation to the Buckley group, which reviews pay every four years for senior office-holders in the public sector, including Oireachtas members, the judiciary and hospital consultants.
TDs are seeking pay parity under the review with principal officers in the Civil Service, some of whom earn £50,000 a year. TDs currently earns £38,035 a year.
Mr Killeen said yesterday that putting TDs on an incremental scale linked to Civil Service pay would be a much fairer way of determining Oireachtas members' salaries.
