Action must be taken to bring Irish science and technology up to the standards set by the rest of the EU, according to the Royal Irish Academy. The RIA's Science Research Committee has urged Government to act on the recommendations for increased funding contained in a report by the Irish Council for Science, Technology and Innovation, now under consideration by Government.
The report called for increased funding for research and for third-level equipment. It was "essential" that action be taken, the committee stated, to "ensure that Ireland becomes a leader in the science-based global economy".
