AUSTIN – Texas governor Rick Perry yesterday said he would consider running for the 2012 Republican US presidential nomination, a change from his previous stance.
“I’m going to think about it,” he told reporters after he signed a Bill requiring Texans to show photo identification in order to vote. He had insisted repeatedly he would not seek the Republican nomination to challenge Democratic president Barack Obama. He has been urged to run by party members unhappy with the current field.
Some noted Republicans decided not to run in recent weeks, including Indiana governor Mitch Daniels and former Arkansas governor Mike Huckabee. – (Reuters)
