A garden centre and builders' suppliers next to the Ringsend sewage works in Dublin has been forced to close because of the foul odour from the plant.
Ringsend Builders' Providers said it has lost business because of the smell, and that its staff of 15 could no longer work because of the odour.
"We closed the garden centre two months ago. Customers would leave without buying anything. Now we're having to close the builders' providers; we just had too many complaints about the smell, and people stopped coming to us," said manager Paul Horan.
He said he had received many assurances from the Department of the Environment and Dublin City Council that work was ongoing to eliminate the odour, but the situation had not changed.
"A lot of money has been invested in this premises, but we had to decide that enough was enough."
Mr Horan said the company intended to vacate the area this month and was seeking a new site.
The council says it has put a new programme in place which will eliminate the odour.
