Prison officers in riot gear were used to bring a man to court yesterday. Mr Michael King (39), of no fixed abode, who is alleged to have stabbed his pregnant wife, was brought into Dublin District Court flanked by four officers wearing helmets and padded clothing.
Mr King, who had been bleeding from a wound to his forehead, is charged with assaulting Ms Kathleen Donnelly and possession of a screwdriver at Collins Place, Finglas, on August 17th.
He was remanded him in custody until September 1st. Judge Desmond Hogan asked that directions be received from the DPP as "quickly as possible" and he ordered that he receive medical attention.
