Trouble flared in north Belfast last night in a series of incidents in a flashpoint area.
A police Land Rover was attacked with missiles by a nationalist mob at the Ardoyne shops and a police car was also damaged in a separate incident in Brompton Park.
A PSNI spokesman said a number of Catholic houses on Alliance Avenue were damaged by missiles thrown across the peace line from Glenbryn Park.
One family, including a five month old baby, escaped injury after their house was hit by a petrol bomb.
A number of fireworks were thrown at a military patrol on the Ardoyne Road at around 10.30 and a short time later rival crowds of nationalists and loyalists gathered in the area and began to pelt each other with stones and other missiles.
The loyalist Ulster Defence Association had earlier been accused of attempting to provoke sectarian violence in the area ahead of the parade.
Sinn Féin councillor Mr Eoin O'Broin said: "Regrettably there has been a dramatic increase in attacks on the nationalist people in Ardoyne in the last number of days and there is a genuine fear that the UDA is attempting to wind up this situation in order to provoke a confrontation on Saturday."
Yesterday the Parades Commission upheld a decision to allow a contentious Apprentice Boys parade to pass down the Crumlin Road passed the Ardoyne shops on Saturday.
