A 16-year-old girl became the latest road crash victim when she lost her battle for life yesterday.
Amy St John from Woodfield, Newcastlewest, Co Limerick, was critically injured in a two car collision in Co Limerick on Saturday night.
The teenager was travelling in a car with three other young people when it collided with another vehicle in which a couple in their fifties were travelling.
The crash took place at about 9pm near Feohanagh in Co Limerick. None of the other people were seriously injured.
Four units of the Co Limerick fire service from Newcastlewest and Rathkeale attended the scene from 9.30pm until almost 6am on Sunday.
The road between Brannock Bridge and Rathpalatine was closed until Sunday afternoon to allow for a technical examination.
Amy St John is survived by her father Thomas, mother Geraldine and brother Ronan. Her father is very well known in local sporting circles and manages the senior team at Newcastlewest Rovers soccer club.
Local Fianna Fáil councillor Michael Collins said the death of the 16-year-old was a tragedy for the entire west Limerick town.
