Eighteen cattle found on a roadside in Co Laois yesterday morning were not being treated as a mis-identification issue, the Department of Agriculture has said.
The cattle, which were found at Errill, on the Laois/Tipperary border, were identified because they had tags.
"Almost all of them had tags. There were a couple of them that we had to resolve identification issues with. It looks simply as if it is animals having escaped from a field," a Department spokesman said.
Meanwhile, gardai in Templemore were yesterday investigating a report of a cattle truck in the Borrisoleigh area of north Tipperary at approximately 1 a.m. yesterday. However when gardai investigated the report, they found the truck had disappeared.
