Brazilia - Brazilian police arrested seven men yesterday who have confessed to killing champion sailor Sir Peter Blake, from New Zealand who was shot to death by pirates in the Amazon.
"The suspects claimed they fired in self-defence. They said they didn't know anyone famous was aboard and they weren't expecting any resistance," said Federal Police agent, Mr Jose Araujo, in Macapa, 1,800 miles north-west of Rio de Janeiro.
Mr Araujo said the seven confessed they boarded Sir Peter's 119 ft schooner yacht at its anchorage in the mouth of the Amazon River near Macapa on Wednesday night, intending to rob it, and fatally shot him when he tried to resist.
