England legend Bryan Robson has joined the list of those expressing an interest in taking over at Aston Villa.
The former Middlesbrough boss admits he also wanted the post back in February 2002, having left the Riverside Stadium the previous summer.
"I'm interested in the job and hopefully Aston Villa are interested in me. If that's the case I would definitely want to talk to them," quotes www.skysports.com.
"I wanted the job when John Gregory was going, but Villa had already set something up with Graham Taylor. I would be going there to get them in the top six. The club needs to be winning trophies and playing in Europe, not fighting relegation."
George Graham and George Burley have already put their names forward while David O'Leary topped a recent supporters' poll over who should follow Graham Taylor.
Villa's board have moved to reassure fans that the departure of Taylor was not connected to a fallout over transfer funds.
The Premiership outfit have also stressed that chairman Doug Ellis will not sell his shares in the club.
In a statement to fans on the club website, www.avfc.co.uk, the board said: "Graham Taylor's departure was a surprise to us all, but suggestions that a row between Graham and board members was a decisive factor, are untrue.
"The speculation that board members, either collectively or individually, refused to accept Graham's recommendations on summer activity is also untrue".
