Rock Of Gibraltar wins Sussex Stakes

Rock Of Gibraltar was an easy winner of the Sussex Stakes at Glorious Goodwood this afternoon. It was the colt’s sixth successive Group One triumph.

The three-year-old, trained by Aidan O'Brien and owned by Manchester United manager Alex Ferguson, was emulating the mighty Mill Reef. He won six races at the highest level in 1971 and 1972.

Michael Kinane sent his mount to the front a furlong out and the 8-13 favourite was barely out of a canter as he defeated last year's winner Noverre (3-1) by two lengths. Reel Buddy was a further two lengths away in third.

No Excuse Needed was fourth with Rock Of Gibraltar's pacemaker Sahara Desert last of the five runners.
