Funeral services are taking place this evening for the Roscommon couple found shot dead at their home in Donamon on Sunday.

Funeral services are taking place this evening for the Roscommon couple found shot dead at their home in Donamon on Sunday.

The bodies of Brian and Ann Flynn were discovered by their son, Brian Jr at around 7.30 p.m. It is believed that Mr Flynn shot his wife before killing himself.

Their remains are being removed to St Mary's Church, Kilbegnet, for a service at 7 p.m. this evening. They will be buried at Kilbegnet cemetery after mass at 12 noon tomorrow.

Post mortem examinations carried out on the couple's bodies yesterday revealed that both died as a result of gunshot wounds. Gardai are not looking for anyone else in connection with the deaths of the Flynns but they have indicated there was no known conflict between them.

The licence for the gun used in the incident was renewed just two weeks ago.

Mr Flynn made a telephone call to the emergency services on Sunday evening saying a "terrible accident" had occurred. However, the couple's son arrived on the scene before the emergency services and he too rang the gardai in a state of distress having found both bodies.

The Flynns are also survived by their other son Raymond and daughter Maria, who is married and living in Sligo.

Senator Terry Leyden, a neighbour of the Flynns, said this evening their deaths had been a "massive shock" to everyone in the community.
