Longford Town and Shamrock Rovers were forced to settle for a point each at Flancare Park tonight.
The scoreless draw meant Rovers missed their chance to move into joint third alongside Cork City and Longford were denied their opportunity to get themselves into position for a top three challenge.
In the eircom League first Division Galway United moved into second place on 22 points following their 3-1 defeat of Athlone Town.
Meanwhile Finn Harps beat Dublin City by two goals to nil and Kildare County were held to a one all draw by Kilkenny City.
