ABOUT 50 members of Éirigí protested outside City Hall, Dublin, last night against the proposed visit of Britain’s Queen Elizabeth.
The protest organised by the republican group coincided with a motion on the agenda of the monthly meeting of council representatives expressing concern over any such visit.
There was a highly visible, low-key Garda presence at the peaceful protest where the names of 30 victims of what was termed the “British army or the murder squads they controlled” were read out.
Meanwhile, the Office of Public Works has removed graffiti from the Wellington monument in Dublin’s Phoenix Park. A message, reportedly reading “No to imperial visits”, was smeared across the monument’s eastern face using blue spray paint in the early hours of yesterday morning.
