RTÉ's two main radio stations saw their market share slip in 2006, according to the latest figures from a Joint National Listenership Research (JNLR) survey.
RTE Radio One's market share decreased by 0.2 per cent to 20.9 per cent compared to 2005 figures while RTE 2fm's market share fell by 0.1 per cent to 12.9 per cent.
Today FM increased its market share to 12.1 per cent (up 0.4 per cent) while RTE Lyric FM increased its share to 1.7 per cent (up 0.1 per cent). Newstalk 106FM did not receive national figures in this survey.
The survey shows that 85 per cent of the adult population were listening daily to a mix of national, regional and local radio throughout the country in 2006.
In Dublin, Newstalk 106 saw the largest increase in market share at 1.2 per cent giving them a 6.7 per cent market share in the capital. 98 FM also saw an increase to 14.1 per cent while the remaining local stations saw small decreases in share; FM104 down to 13.3 per cent (-0.5), Q102 at 6.2 per cent (-1), Spin 103.8 down to 4.8 per cent (-0.8) and Dublin's Country Mix 106.8 at 2.8 per cent (-0.1).
In the South-East, Beat 102-103FM increased its market share to 10.9 per cent while Cork's 96FM/Country Sound 103 and Cork's Red FM saw marginal changes to their 2005 figures.
Most local stations in Dublin saw changes to their "reach" figures (the number of people who listened yesterday) apart from Spin 103.8, which maintained its reach of 12 per cent.
Newstalk increased its reach in the Dublin market to 9 per cent while FM104, 98 FM, Q102 and Dublin's Country Mix 106.8 all saw 1 per cent decreases in their reach figures to 22 per cent, 17 per cent, 10 per cent and 3 per cent respectively.
