An injured policeman was taken to hospital last night in Enniskillen, after the car in which he was a passenger was hit by a number of bricks.

The incident took place at Lisgoole Park just before 11 p.m., according to the RUC, when the passenger window of the car was smashed.

In Portadown, there were incidents of stone throwing and petrol bomb attacks, the RUC reported, notably in Corcrain Road, a loyalist area. Earlier, representatives of the Garvaghy Road Residents' Association met the Parades Commission for "frank discussions" in which the question of Orange marches in Portadown was reviewed.

Spokesman for the residents' association, Mr Brendan Mac Cionnaith said they had asked the Commission to reassess the situation following a second night of disturbances in the Corcrain area. He said nationalists had been subjected to intimidation and abuse and called on the Orange Order to claim responsibility.

Mr Mac Cionnaith also intimated that the residents' association might put up a legal challenge to some of the decision taken by the Commission.
