Greg Rusedski has been cleared of a doping offence despite testing positive for the banned steroid nandrolone last July.
A three-man panel appointed by the Association of Tennis Professionals (ATP) cleared the Canadian-born Briton after a closed-door hearing in Montreal last month.
Rusedski, who turned 30 this year, had been facing a two-year ban which would have all-but signalled the end of his career.
In a hastily released statement to the BBC, Rusedski said, that the judgement was "unequivocal" and that the finding was an "enormous relief" to him and his family. He said he was now looking forward to resuming his career. The player will give his full response next Tuesday, he said.
Rusedski had always insisted he had not knowingly taken any performance-enhancing drugs, suggesting that his positive test was related to supplements distributed to the players by the ATP themselves.
His case detailed claims that over 40 of his fellow professionals had given elevated readings of nandrolone. And Rusedski claimed his test had the same `analytical fingerprint' as the other tests.
