But tournament referee Alan Mills announced the lenient punishment after a meeting with Rusedski today.
"I have made a reasonable investigation into the conduct of Mr Rusedski and have decided to fine him the sum of £1,500 for his audible obscenity," Mills said.
Rusedski, who lost 7-6, 7-6, 7-5 was infuriated when Swedish umpire Lars Graff did not order a point to be replayed in the third set after a spectator called a point out during a rally.
Mills said Graff was "absolutely correct", pointing out that under the rules "crowd noise 'out' calls from spectators and other similar distractions are not considered a hindrance and the point should stand as played".
