Rusedski, who protests his innocence, tested positive for nandrolone last year and faces a two-year ban, with the Association of Tennis Professionals potentially giving their verdict as soon as this afternoon.

Great Britain's Davis Cup squad has been anchored by Rusedski and Tim Henman in recent years but David Felgate, the Lawn Tennis Association's performance director, is encouraged by the developing talent in this country.

On Rusedski's potential suspension, he told the London Independent: "I really hope it doesn't come to this but if the worst happens and we lose Greg, we will be able to handle it.
