Russia's government has won a pledge from oil firms not to raise pump prices for fuel in an attempt to curb inflation, a participant at a meeting with Prime Minister Mikhail Fradkov said today.
The oil firms reportedly provided assurances to the government that a recent upturn in prices was seasonal and there would not be further rises this year.
Earlier Interfax news agency reported the meeting had reached agreement on stabilising prices, but the participant at the meeting said that was not the case.
"No special decision was taken," the participant said. "It was a seasonal spike. They are sure that prices won't rise further."
