Russian forces have today freed US aid worker Mr Kenneth Gluck, seized in Chechnya last month by masked gunmen.

Mr Gluck, regional head of the humanitarian group Medecins Sans Frontieres (MSF), was seized in Chechnya on January 9th about 12 miles south of the capital, Grozny.

Interfax news agency quoted military officials in Chechnya as saying Mr Gluck had been freed without any special conditions or ransom paid. Russian officials had said the aid worker was being held by a Chechen rebel group demanding a cash ransom.
