A WIDE range of organisations paid tribute to Mr Brennan.
The director general of Ibec, Turlough O'Sullivan, said he was a gifted and dedicated politician.
"Mr Brennan always brought a professionalism, an openness and a vision to his work which has served the country well," he said.
Ryanair's Michael O'Leary said that as a pioneering transport minister in the 1980s, he developed the two-airline strategy which laid the basis for 20 years of strong tourism growth. "It is no exaggeration to say that without Séamus Brennan's vision in the early 1980s, Ryanair would not exist today . . ."
Aer Lingus management and staff also paid tribute to Mr Brennan, saying his strategic approach and forward thinking was responsible for liberalising air transportation.
The Society of St Vincent de Paul paid tribute to Mr Brennan's enthusiasm and dedication during his tenure as minister for social and family affairs.
The Gaelic Players Association praised Mr Brennan, saying he was central to the agreement to provide Government funding for intercounty players while he was minister for sport.
The Irish Tourism Industry Federation, the Children's Rights Alliance, the AA and the Chief of Staff of the Defence Forces, Lieut Gen Dermot Earley, also paid tribute to Mr Brennan.
