Ryanair withdraws service to Rimini

Ryanair said it will cease its daily service from London Stansted to Rimini airport in Italy from June 25th.

Ryanair said it will cease its daily service from London Stansted to Rimini airport in Italy from June 25th.

Ryanair has flown from London Stansted to Rimini since June 1998, carrying over 70,000 passengers in the last year, it said.

But the airline said it has had significant difficulties in recent months with the board and management of Rimini airport. The airport has sought to change the terms of its contract with Ryanair and to break the terms of the deal, it claimed.

Ryanair commercial director Mr Michael Cawley said; "Ryanair's low fares revived tourism in this region, which has long been bereft of visitors from Britain.

"The airport management and board now feel that they can renege on the terms of the agreement. What they do not understand is that with ten existing airports and in excess of ten further airports seeking our business Ryanair has more demand for its flights than it can supply for the foreseeable future."

For the rest of the summer, Ryanair's capacity will be shifted to Ancona, one hour's drive south of Rimini.
