The South African Rugby association are to launch a national investigation into Saturday's attack on Irish referee David McHugh during a Tri-Nations match in Durban.
McHugh was forced to retire with a dislocated shoulder when 43-year-old spectator Pieter van Zyl tackled him to the ground a few minutes into the second half of the match.
Van Zyl was granted bail yesterday after being charged with assault to do grievous bodily harm and trespassing.
SA Rugby (Pty) Ltd are also working closely with officials at Ellis Park Stadium in Johannesburg to ensure strict security during this Saturday's Tri-Nations Mandela Cup match between South Africa and Australia.
