Tottenham have confirmed they are in talks with Glenn Hoddle following his decision to quit as Southampton manager.
A statement from Spurs read: "The board of Tottenham Hotspur plc confirms that, following the consent of Southampton Football Club, discussions are taking place with Glenn Hoddle to become the football manager of Tottenham Hotspur Football Club. A further announcement will be made when appropriate."
Hoddle's decision to leave Saints and join Tottenham has left Southampton chairman Rupert Lowe furious at the hasty way in which the former England coach "turned his back" on the club that revived his career.
Lowe said Hoddle phoned late last night to tell him that, after talks with Spurs, he had decided to succeed George Graham.
