Southampton have confirmed the signing of Sunderland striker Kevin Philips, for £3 million.

Southampton have confirmed the signing of Sunderland striker Kevin Philips, for £3 million.

The 30-year-old is set to be unveiled at a press conference around now. The fee for Philips was believed to have been finalised last week, and since then the clubs have been working on organising the personal terms of the deal.

The player indicated he wished to leave the Stadium of Light, following Sunderland's relegation at the end of last season.

Since signing for Sunderland in 1997, Philips clocked up 115 goals from 209 league games, but last season saw him hit the scoresheet just six times.
