Sales of 'Irish Times' rise 0.2% in 2006

The Irish Timesincreased its circulation by 0.2 per cent in the first six months of the year, while sales of the Irish Independentfell by 1 per cent over the period, according to new figures released today.

The circulation figures compiled by the Audit Bureau of Circulation (ABC) show that the average circulation of The Irish Timeswas 117,797 while the Irish Independentsold 162,582 copies.

The Evening Heraldsuffered a marked fall in sales with circulation dropping 6.6 per cent drop to 87,645.

In the highly competitive Sunday market, Ireland on Sundaysaw sales drop 10 per cent to 125,254 while archrival the Sunday Independentfell 1.2 per cent. The Sunday Business Postcontinued its recent sales recovery by increasing sales by 7.8 per cent to 55,876 in the first half of 2006.

The Sunday Tribunealso enjoyed a pick-up in circulation with a 1.4 per cent increase to 72,184 copies.

The Sunday Worldremains the biggest selling Irish Sunday paper with a combined circulation of 274,143 for its two editions in the Republic and in the North.
