Toronto reported two more Severe Acute Respiratory Syndrome (SARS) deaths yesterday to bring the Canadian toll from the illness to 33.
The health ministry in Ontario said a 66-year-old woman and a 63-year-old man died on Saturday.
The ministry said there were 68 probable cases of SARS in the Toronto area, down from 70 cases reported on Friday.
The statement said 176 people were being monitored for infection and 22 people were in critical condition.
Toronto is the only place outside Asia where the virus has proved fatal.
Worldwide, the virus has killed nearly 780 people and infected more than 8,400 in 30 countries.
Canadian health officials said on Friday they would expand a screening program designed to detect whether arriving international airline passengers were suffering from SARS.
