Sligo cyclist Mark Scanlon has been announced in the Ag2R Prévoyance team for the Tour de France, which gets underway next Saturday.
The 23-year-old had been expected to be named in the nine-man team but official confirmation was not forthcoming until this afternoon.
The former world junior champion will become just the eighth Irish rider to compete in the world's greatest bike race. Shay Elliott, Ian Moore, Seán Kelly, Stephen Roche, Martin Earley, Paul Kimmage and Laurence Roche are the only other Irishmen to have taken part.
