Prof Michael Coey has won the inaugural RDS/Intel prize lecture for nanoscience. Supported by The Irish Times, the medal award was established in recognition of the significant achievements being made by Irish scientists abroad and scientists based in ireland in nanoscience.
Prof Michael Coey is Erasmus Smith’s Chair of Natural and Experimental Philosophy at the Naughton Institute at Trinity College Dublin. The award is made in recognition of Prof Coey’s outstanding research achievements in the development of new magnetic materials, more efficient magnetic recording and in spin electronics.
The award requires Prof Coey to present a public lecture about his research, to take place at the RDS this autumn, at which he will also receive his RDS medal.
This new annual award will alternate between a scientist based here and an Irish scientist based abroad.
