Vennetics: A cross-platform piece of software revolutionises how we can make and receive calls
IMAGINE BEING ABLE to make cheap international internet-based phone calls, but being able to swap them from smartphone to laptop to desktop PC without interrupting the conversation and without having to set up a new account. This is precisely what Moozler, a cross-border partnership between Dundalk IT firm Vennetics and Belfast’s Instil, offers.
While current systems, such as Skype, require users to get a new username or phone number, Moozler allows users to make calls and have them charged to their mobile phone bill rather than a new account. When there is an incoming call, the system understands that the user has a computer, a mobile and possibly other connected devices. It allows users to answer calls on whatever device is convenient, to make calls from whatever device is most cost-effective and to swap between devices when required.
Moozler is the first service to provide a coherent set of features across multiple devices and multiple networks, based on a single number with a single bill.
The project aimed to provide a cloud computing-based, publicly available service that could be downloaded from Irish servers by anyone anywhere, and a new billing infrastructure so users worldwide could pay for Moozler calls.
It has been a big success. Anyone in the world can now download Moozler for free to multiple devices. Moozler now has direct paying customers and mobile operators that resell the technology under their own brand.
