Brazil coach Luiz Felipe Scolari, who has been regularly sent off and banned in club football for misbehaving onthe touchline, received his first suspension in charge of the national team today.

The South American Football Confederation (CSF) gave the volatile Brazil boss known as ‘Big Phil’ a one-match touchline ban after he was shownthe red card in Wednesday's Copa America match against Paraguay.

As a result, Scolari, who only needed four games to earn his first suspension in Brazil colours, will have to watch Monday's quarter-final againstHonduras from the stands.

Scolari was dismissed for celebrating Brazil's first goal in a 3-1 win by making an offensive gesture at the referee who earlier had awardedParaguay a penalty and sent off defender Roque Junior.

At the end of the game, an enraged Scolari told Brazilian television that his team had played against "12 or 13" and dismissed the refereeing as ajoke.

Scolari nearly always stands on the touchline during matches ranting at the referee and his assistants and protesting their decisions.

Earlier this year, when he was in charge of Brazilian club Cruzeiro, he was handed a 40-day ban after insulting a referee.

Last year television cameras caught him threatening a referee after another sending-off. Millions of television viewers saw a livid Scolari tell theofficial: "I'll wait for you outside, mate."
