Adam Scott held off the chasing pack to win the $5 million Deutsche Bank Championship in Boston yesterday with a closing round of 66 and a total of 264 - four shots clear of Rocco Mediate, who birdied the last for a round of 65 and a total of 268.
England's Justin Rose birdied four of the last six holes in a final round of 67 to claim third place at 15 under par 269, with Vijay Singh next on 270 after a 66 and Tim Heron (271) after a final round of 68
Scott, with a three-shot lead after the third round, had stretched his lead to four after 15 holes of the final round.
Scott was four-under for the day after birdies at the second, third, sixth and seventh only to drop his first shot at the 11th.
However, he was quickly back in the groove with a birdie at the 15th that gave him a four-shot cushion over the closing holes.
Ireland's Darren Clarke slipped to one over for the final round after 16 holes. Birdies at the first and sixth looked to have given Clarke the impetus needed to make a charge but it all came unstuck at the ninth and 10th where he dropped shots and despite a birdie two at the 11th a double bogey five at the 16th and another bogey at the last dropped him to nine shots off the pace and well out of contention.
Clarke finished with a two over par 73 for a four round total of 275 and a share of ninth place after starting the day tied for third.
A second successive 67 lifted Tiger Woods to a share of seventh place with Steve Flesch on 11 under par 273.
