SCOTLAND:Scottish Labour leader Wendy Alexander last night claimed she had been "vindicated" in a long-running row over a political donation.

She was speaking following an Electoral Commission decision not to report her to prosecutors over a £950 (€1,274) donation from a Jersey-based businessman, Paul Green, to her party leadership campaign last year.

But she admitted mistakes had been made and said: "This has been a salutary and bruising experience."

Ms Alexander, sister of international development secretary Douglas Alexander, also sought to quell speculation that her leadership was in trouble as a consequence of the Electoral Commission investigation and other issues.
