SDLP names policing board member

The SDLP has confirmed West Belfast Assembly member Alex Attwood will not be serving on the North's Policing Board.

In a surprise move, the party announced Upper Bann MLA Dolores Kelly will be the party's sole representative on the board.

Mr Attwood will be the party's spokesman on employment and learning issues and also cross-border issues.

A party spokesman said: "We are in a new era, as far as policing is concerned. In many ways the heavy lifting has already been done, particularly by Alex as party spokesperson and on the board."

Sinn Féin will take seats for the first time on the policing board.
