Gardai and emergency services are searching the River Slaney in Co Wexford this afternoon for the bodies of two men and a woman who were reported missing after jumping into the river at different times over the last eight days.
The south east region has been in shock following a spate of such incidents in recent days. The bodies of two other men were recovered from the river in recent days. A fifth man is recovering in hospital after being rescued.
All the incidents are understood to be unconnected.
The South Eastern Health Board set up a freephone helpline yesterday for all those affected by the traumatic events. Its number is 1800 455 120 and it is open daily from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.
Professional counsellors will be available from 3 to 5 p.m at Enniscorthy health centre.
