A search was underway off the Donegal coast early today for a 10-year-old boy swept out to sea in high winds. The body of a man in his 30s, thought to be the child's father, was earlier recovered from waters near a pier in the town of Mountcharles, Co Donegal, after passers-by spotted a car drifting close to shore. The vehicle is believed to have been blown into the sea along a coastal road at nearby Salthill at around 9.30 p.m. The Marine Emergency helicopter based at Finner, Co Donegal, is leading the search, together with members of the Donegal cliff and coastal rescue service, gardai from Mountcharles and Donegal Town and local volunteers. The man's body was brought to Letterkenny General Hospital where it is awaiting post-mortem.
