A second round of Israeli-Palestinian negotiations ended today without a breakthrough on ending the three-week standoff at Bethlehem's Church of the Nativity, a Palestinian official said.
The two sides agreed to meet again tomorrow at 4 p.m. (1 p.m. Irish time) in a bid to end the tense confrontation between the Israeli army and armed Palestinian militants holed up in the church, chief Palestinian negotiator Mr Salah al-Taamari said.
"The Israelis insist on exiling (the Palestinian militants) and we refuse to accept this demand," the negotiator said after the second meeting of the day that lasted nearly three hours.
