Gardaí in Limerick were last night investigating the second shooting in the city in 24 hours.
A man in his 30s suffered pellet wounds to his face and upper body in the early hours of yesterday morning in Ballyclough Avenue in the Ballinacurra Weston area of the city. Less than 24 hours earlier, another man in his 30s was shot in a housing estate in Moyross.
Meanwhile, gardaí from Baileboro, Co Cavan are investigating the circumstances which led to a 28-year-old Kingscourt man being found lying on a roadside near his home on the Rock Road at 3.30am yesterday.
The man was found unconscious and was taken by ambulance to Navan hospital before being moved to Our Lady of Lourdes in Drogheda where he remains on a life support machine suffering from "serious chest and head injuries". Gardaí believe the man is either the victim of a serious assault or a hit and run.
A 33-year-old man was in a critical condition last night following an attack in Clonmel, Co Tipperary in the early hours of yesterday morning. A man in his late 20s is being questioned by gardaí in relation to the assault which took place Gladstone St at around 2.50am.
