Gardai are tonight continuing to question a second man over the death of Lithuanian man in north Dublin after he disturbed a gang of men trying to steal diesel from his lorry.
The 45-year-old was killed when he was dragged along the road by a vehicle, said to be a red van, outside his home on Lanesborough Crescent, Finglas, just after 10pm last night.
It is understood the victim and some friends had disturbed a gang of men who were trying siphon diesel from their lorries.
As they tried to flee, the man got caught up in the red van and was dragged for over 50 yards. He later died in hospital from his injuries.
An 18-year-old man who was arrested at the scene and detained in Blanchardson station today appeared in Dublin District Court charged with theft. A second man, 20, who was arrested this afternoon is still being questioned by gardai in Finglas.
Three other men who voluntarily handed themselves in for questioning at Finglas garda station in connection with the incident today were earlier released without charge.
Gardai have recovered the van which they believe was involved. It is currently been examined by forensic specialists in Blanchardstown.
A spokeswoman said: "We currently have one man still being questioned and one man who has appeared in court. A full investigation is underway and is ongoing."
