British and Zimbabwean secret service officers colluded to send Nicholas Mullen (51) back to Britain to face a terrorist charge for which he is now serving a 30-year sentence, the British Appeal Court was told yesterday.
Mullen, who holds an Irish passport and whose father was born in Sligo, is appealing against a conviction imposed in 1990 at the Old Bailey following the discovery by police of explosives two years previously.
His counsel, Mr Colin MacKay QC, said that the actions of the secret services were a breach of international law. Mullen could be eligible to be repatriated to Ireland under the Belfast Agreement.
