Algiers - Algerian security forces killed six Islamic extremists after they ambushed and murdered three civilians near the eastern town of Tlemcen, the daily El-Khabar newspaper reported yesterday.The incident happened after the extremists erected one of the false checkpoints they model on those of the security forces, on the road from Ouled Mimoun to Ain Talout, near Tlemcen, on Friday.Another group attacked a village near Sidi Yahia, also in the Tlemcen region, overnight on Saturday, smashing television sets and looting food supplies, according to the newspaper.Newspapers yesterday put the death toll in the latest massacre in a village in the Medea region, south of Algiers, overnight on Friday at between 37 and 45. The massacre was first reported in Le Soir d'Algerie, which said 53 people, mainly women and children, were killed. Their throats were cut.
