A Serb man who was shot in themouth while fishing near a Serbian enclave in Kosovo died of hisinjuries in a Belgrade hospital today, officials said.

The death came less than a week after suspected ethnicAlbanian extremists murdered two Serb teenagers while they wereswimming near another Serbian enclave in the United Nations-runterritory.

Mr Dragan Tonic (45) was shot on August 11th near his village ineastern Kosovo. He told doctors he had been attacked by two men,the Beta news agency reported.

Serbian Deputy Prime Minister Nebojsa Covic was due to urgethe UN Security Council at a special session on Monday tocrack down on Albanian extremists and apply the full force ofUN police and NATO peacekeepers to stop such attacks.

Mr Covic has warned that unless the international communityshows its teeth, Albanian militants will start turning theirguns on UN and NATO personnel.

Until four years ago, Kosovo's two million Albanians wereunder the heel of the authoritarian regime of Serbian strongmanSlobodan Milosevic. In 1999 NATO bombed Serbia for 78 days toforce its troops out of the province and end the repression, inwhich an estimated 10,000 were killed.

Serbia says over 1,000 Serbs have been murdered in revengeattacks by ethnic Albanians since then. The UN puts the numberof Serbs killed at around 275.
