Belgrade - Serbia's interior minister has warned the country's opposition and its supporters that he might order the use of force if they threatened to destabilise the state, Belgrade newspapers reported yesterday. Addressing police officers in the southern district of Raska, bordering Kosovo province, Mr Vlajko Stojiljkovic was quoted as saying: "Police will act in keeping with the constitution and law and take measures to protect all citizens and property, as well as their right to a free and safe life and work."
Mr Zoran Djindjic, the leader of the opposition Democratic Party, told a news conference: "Since the Yugoslav Army has recently shown less enthusiasm to act as Milosevic's bodyguard against the people, his police came in with their threats."
